Tattoos are permanent, so when you're trying to come up with a concept for a tattoo you would like to get it is important to think it through thoroughly and come up with something you know you're going to love for the rest of your life. Something that will leave you pleased is likely to be something that is very meaningful to you and when you are coming up with a tattoo concept that represents "happiness" you can go in many different directions.

Portraits

When you're thinking of things that represent happiness for you, think of people in your life in the past or present that bring you great happiness. These people can be your parents, grandparents, other important family members, friends or your children. There are many great tattoo artists in the field who are able to do beautiful and accurate portraits. Consider getting a tattoo of someone's portrait. It can be an old photo that shows the subject as young, vibrant and beautiful, a favorite photo of you and that person or a portrait that you know means a lot to that person.

Characters or Words

Many people choose to get Chinese characters tattooed on them. There is a character that represents happiness which you could use as your tattoo or part of your tattoo, or you could use another character that represents something that brings you happiness such as the characters for family or friends.

If you are planning a larger tattoo you could incorporate the word happiness into the overall tattoo or use the word happiness from a different language. If you would like to incorporate your heritage into your tattoo use the word happiness in that language.

Names

If you're not interested in having a portrait of someone tattooed on you or cannot find a good artist locally who you feel confident could do a good job, think about having somebody's name tattooed on you if that person brings you happiness. This person could be your spouse, child or family member. You can also incorporate other aspects of happiness around the name such as pictures of characters.

Pictures

Pictures leave you the biggest options when choosing a tattoo concept that represents happiness. Think of anything in your life that brings you happiness and think about the first visuals that come to mind. If music brings you happiness you can utilize music notes. Sunshine, clouds and water can represent the beach or outdoors bringing you happiness. If you find happiness in traveling you can incorporate pictures that represent countries you have been to and places you have been.
